What a mouthful... that title. I was researching for our summer holidays and there's a top 10 article everywhere I looked. Thus inspiring me to have one of my own, so here is my attempt at a top 10 article :) Now, these places made a deep impression on me, so it is a personal list of unforgettable places I've been. I've not heard of some of these places beforehand, so I feel very lucky to have had the chance to visit them. Hope this list would inspire some holiday planning for you! :P This was suggested by the Mister whilst we were planning a Chrismas trip to the Baltics. I have no idea how he came about this place, but am glad that he did. We did the capital cities in a row: Helsinki-Tallinn-Riga-Vilnius. Through research, we found that Šiauliai was not easily accessible, thus we joined a tour. With the guide, we were able to get to & fro without any fuss & appreciated the significance of the place. Although it was cold, grey & windy, walking amongst the thousands of big, small, tall, short crosses gave me a bit of goosebumps. We spotted crosses with different languages, some were bare whilst others with embellishments.. According to our guide, authorities cleared the site and tried to stop people from placing crosses but has failed time & time again. Unique, touches the heart and definitely, unforgettable sight/site. Yikes.. another sacred site..! It was kinda hiding in the clouds when we first saw it - so you could imagine that my jaw just dropped when I caught sight of it. Once you're up there, you can't help it but be at awe of the skill, determination and patience it must have taken for a place like this to be built. There are many incredible places like this in the world and I hope to visit more of them too :p! I thought I'll be in just another Norwegian town, but boy, was I wrong! Wild & dramatic landscape is all you see when flying into Trømso. For a place so cold, the locals are so friendly and warm. The place had a lively vibe to it as something is always happening - you could chase the Aurora Borealis, go reindeer or dog sledging, whale watching, try a snowmobile or enjoy a birdeye's view from a helicopter ride. Even though I didn't get to see the lights dance during that trip, I left thinking Tromsø is the coolest Norwegian city I've been :) Tucked in the lush Tuscany, San Gimignano is a walled medieval hill town. From afar, you could see the many towers the town has. Even though it was drizzling when we were there, we still felt its' charm. We wandered through the Piazzas and tried locating the many towers. It was easy to see why it is a UNESCO site. Maybe it was the misty rain, I remembered feeling really romantic whilst maneuvering our way through the winding streets. Besides, the Mister enjoyed a nice local roast here too! :p Tallinn! This is exactly the picture that I have in my mind whenever anyone mentions this place. It was my first Christmas Market in Europe. It was so dreamy and it really set a high level of expectations for me towards Christmas Markets :P The well preserved & quaint Old Town provided the perfect location and it was such a pleasure to wander in. Till today, it is here that I had THE best pancake/crepe! Cassis is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of South France. One of the many things that the seaside town is known for is the calanques. The picture above is one of the famous few near the town. This is definitely one of those places that wherever you look, you are met with a sight of postcard-picture quality. I thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride to visit the calanques, even though it was a sveltering hot summer's day. It was a shame that we couldn't take the touted scenic route in the nearby La Ciotat when we were there but maybe that's a sign that we are to come visit again! :p
