The locals are having fun with skiing and skating on frozen lakes. The fjord has a layer of frozen ice on top but I don’t think it’s thick enough yet. It’s beautiful to see though.
The pros of joining any of the above mentioned are many. Aside from being able to do more of what you are interested in with people who share the same interests, the seemingly main benefit that has been shared with me over & over again, is it is the gateway into the local community. To have a common topic or some kind of topic with locals, to have some of the locals say "Yup, I know her!"and maybe even have friends.
Now, joining most of these clubs/org/groups don’t come free - say the one that I know of is 700kr,- per 6 months. This includes one gathering per month with light refreshments served. Aside from the cost, it is also the commitment to follow up on the activity, especially if it’s for a cause. Being in a close-knitted community like this, one has to be serious about it. I highly doubt it’d be pleasant to be known as "the unreliable" in town, hehe..
IMHO, the pros do outweigh the cons. Though, ideally I would want to attend a couple of gatherings/sessions to understand what do they actually do and expect from their members before committing. It would be interesting to add – being in a club – on my 2013 list. What say you?
Club or no?
